Purpose
The Account Subsidiary Types configuration allows Sales administrators to define the corporate or ownership classifications used when associating a subsidiary with a main Account.
These values become available in the Account Subsidiary Type field of the operational Account Record, helping users describe the subsidiary’s position within the wider corporate structure.
Consistent subsidiary classifications support accurate organizational mapping, filtering, reporting, and Account management.
Access Path
Control Center → Sales Management → Account → Account Subsidiary Types
Overview
An Account Subsidiary Type answers the following question:
💡What type of subsidiary or corporate entity is associated with the main Account?
Depending on the organization’s business requirements, examples may include:
- Wholly Owned Subsidiary
- Partially Owned Subsidiary
- Joint Venture
- Branch
- Division
- Affiliate
The selected value describes the subsidiary’s corporate classification. It is complemented by Relation Type, which explains the organizational or operational nature of the relationship with the main Account.
| Configuration | Answers |
|---|---|
| Account Subsidiary Type | What type of subsidiary or corporate entity is it? |
| Relation Type | How does the entity relate to the main Account? |
| Ownership | What percentage of the entity is owned by the main Account? |

Configuration Recommendations
-
Use classifications that clearly represent the organization’s supported corporate structures.
-
Ensure that each value has a distinct and understandable meaning.
-
Avoid creating separate values that differ only by ownership percentage when the percentage can be recorded in the Ownership field.
-
Do not use this configuration to describe how the subsidiary operates; use Relation Type for that purpose.
-
Align the terminology with the organization’s legal, financial, and Account-management practices.
-
Confirm the correct company scope before saving.
-
Review the proposed classifications with Sales and Finance stakeholders when subsidiaries may be used for billing purposes.
Important Notes
-
The organization being associated as a subsidiary must already exist as an Account Record.
-
This configuration creates selectable subsidiary classifications; it does not create Accounts or establish subsidiary relationships by itself.
-
The relationship is created operationally in the Subsidiaries tab of the main Account.
-
Account Subsidiary Type, Relation Type, and Ownership provide complementary information and should not be treated as interchangeable.
-
If no Account Subsidiary Types are configured for the applicable scope, users may have no values available in the corresponding field.
-
Changes to an existing value may affect subsidiary relationships where it is already assigned.
-
Before deleting a value, verify whether it is currently used by Account Records.
-
Deleting a configuration value may not remove it from historical records.
-
Access depends on the user’s Control Center permissions and company scope.
