Assortment Planning – Configuration Overview

3 min. readlast update: 04.07.2026

Purpose

The Assortment Planning configuration defines the foundational structures used to manage products, services, fixed assets, and pricing within the system.

These configurations are managed in the Control Center and provide the structural framework that supports the operational features of the Assortment Planning module.

Through these settings, administrators can define classification models, categorization structures, pricing controls, and variant organization rules that ensure consistent management of assortment data across the platform.

Proper configuration ensures that products, services, and assets are organized, priced, and governed according to the organization’s operational and commercial standards.

Configuration Areas

The Assortment Planning configuration is organized into several key areas, each responsible for defining part of the assortment structure and pricing governance.

Assortment Classifications

Assortment classifications define high-level grouping mechanisms used to organize products, services, and assets according to business criteria.

These classifications help structure the assortment catalog and support filtering, reporting, and categorization across the system.

Categorization Structure Level Schemas

Categorization schemas define the hierarchical structure used to categorize assortment elements.

Through these schemas, administrators can define multi-level category structures that allow products, services, and assets to be organized in a consistent and scalable way.

These structures are later used when assigning categories during the creation or management of assortment items.

Price Guards

Price guards define pricing control rules that help prevent incorrect or unauthorized pricing.

They can be used to enforce limits such as minimum or maximum price thresholds or to validate pricing changes according to predefined rules.

These controls help maintain pricing consistency and protect commercial margins.

Price List

Price list configuration defines how pricing catalogs are structured and managed.

Price lists determine the prices associated with products and services and may support multiple pricing strategies such as customer-specific pricing, promotional pricing, or regional pricing structures.

Product Variant Categorization

Product variant categorization defines how different variations of a product are classified and structured.

Variants may represent differences such as size, color, configuration, or other attributes that distinguish product versions while maintaining a shared product identity.

This configuration ensures that product variants are consistently categorized and managed.

Programs

Programs allow the grouping of assortment items under specific commercial or operational initiatives.

Programs can be used to organize products and services for campaigns, product families, strategic initiatives, or internal management purposes.

They provide an additional layer of organization beyond standard categorization structures.

Role of Configuration in Assortment Planning

The configuration defined in the Control Center serves as the structural backbone of the Assortment Planning module.

Once configured, these settings support the operational management of:

  • Products
  • Services
  • Fixed Assets
  • Price Lists
  • Categorization Structures

By defining these structures first, organizations ensure that all assortment elements follow consistent classification, pricing, and governance rules.

Best Practices

  • Configure classification and categorization structures before creating assortment items.
  • Keep category hierarchies clear and scalable to support future growth.
  • Define price guards to prevent pricing inconsistencies.
  • Standardize variant categorization to simplify product management.
  • Use programs to group items for strategic or commercial initiatives.
