Assortment Planning – Categorization Structures

Overview

Categorization Structures define how products are organized within the Assortment Planning module. They provide a hierarchical framework that allows products to be classified in a consistent and structured way.

These structures are essential for:

  • Organizing products into logical categories
  • Supporting product classification and filtering
  • Enabling structured reporting and analysis
  • Standardizing how products are grouped across the organization

Each structure is based on a Level Schema, which defines how many levels exist (e.g., Level 1, Level 2).

How Categorization Structures Are Used

Categorization Structures are used directly in Products.

When assigning a category to a product:

  • You select a Structure
  • Then select a Structure Item (Level)

This ensures:

  • Consistent classification
  • Controlled taxonomy
  • Standardized reporting

Best Practices

  • Define Level Schemas before creating structures
  • Keep naming conventions consistent across levels
  • Avoid overly complex hierarchies
  • Use meaningful codes for integration or reporting
  • Align structures with business domains (e.g., product lines, services)
